BIOGRAPHY

Elena Quesada, a dancer, creator, and performer of contemporary dance, was born in Baeza (Jaén). Her work is based on improvisation, inner listening, and bodily memory. She began her training in her hometown and continued her studies at the Granada Professional Dance Conservatory, while also studying at the Andalusian Dance Center in Seville. Her artistic development has been enriched by grants and residencies at international Contact Improvisation festivals and by her training at Eva Bertomeu's dance school in Valencia. As a performer, she has been part of companies and projects by creators such as Camille Hanson, Paula Quintana, Eva Bertomeu, Compañía Improvisada, Toni Aparisi, Joshua Cienfuegos, and María Rovira (Transit). She has performed works such as We Earth, Cosmos, La Carne, Sagrario, and El Vacío Lleno, among others. Her work has been presented at festivals such as Mueca (Puerto de la Cruz), Ellas Crean (Madrid), SURGE (Madrid), FEX (Granada), and Cervandantes (Alcalá de Henares), in addition to participating in programs and collaborations in Israel, Mexico, France, Germany, the Dominican Republic, and Gibraltar, establishing a career with a national and international presence. She currently combines her personal creations with her work in the company La Fura dels Baus.

His artistic research focuses on improvisation as the origin of gesture, on deep listening to the body as a dramaturgical tool, and on the development of a physicality that arises from intuition rather than form.

SYNOPSIS:

ĀTMAN unfolds as a physical and emotional journey divided into four states, rather than linear scenes. The play begins at a midpoint along the way: an unknown place where a hybrid being—half human, half bird—arrives, still unsure of its location or which part of itself has survived the journey. From this starting point, the drama progresses through a sequence of discovery, conflict, acceptance, and liberation, culminating in an open ending that doesn't resolve the question but rather invites the viewer to remain contemplating it.

The first part presents the arrival. In the second part, the conflict emerges. The third part delves deeper into that recognition. In the fourth part, liberation appears.
