BIOGRAPHY
Adrián Herrera (Mérida, Spain) is a choreographer, dancer, and movement researcher. He is the founder of Human Current, a contemporary dance project and artistic research platform, and co-director of Germen Dance Project with Alba Gog. His practice lies at the intersection of contemporary dance, breaking, and movement research, developing a choreographic language inspired by biomechanics, ergonomics, and the behavioral patterns of marine invertebrates. Through Human Current, he investigates the relationship between body, nature, and the ecology of movement, understanding the body as a living ecosystem in constant transformation where scientific observation and contemporary dance, as a form of performance, engage in dialogue to generate new forms of composition and presence. His research integrates methodologies from marine biology, scientific diving, and choreographic composition, developed in collaboration with Alen Formación, Buceo Algeciras, Observadores del Mar, and Blue Oceans. From this perspective, she conceives of dance as a tool for research, mediation, and awareness-raising, capable of generating new forms and strengthening the bond between humankind and the natural environment. As a performer, she has collaborated with companies such as Pan.Optikum (Germany), Albadulake, Iron Skulls, Escalera de Tijeras, and Libertad Pozo, participating in productions presented in Spain, Portugal, Germany, Colombia, and Romania. Simultaneously, she develops Cuerpo Invertebrado (Invertebrate Body), an international methodology for movement research taught at universities, conservatories, dance companies, and creative centers in Spain, Portugal, Colombia, and Ireland. Her work continues to delve into the dialogue between art, science, and ecology, consolidating a choreographic practice where physicality, adaptation, and environmental awareness constitute the core of her creation.
SYNOPSIS:
Benthos investigates Posidonia oceanica as a living organism, ecological archive, and metaphor for the collective body, exploring through contemporary dance the relationships between interdependence, fragility, and resilience. Starting from the environmental problems affecting Mediterranean seagrass meadows, especially in Ibiza, the research focuses on translating ecological processes—balance, degradation, and regeneration—into the language of the body, generating a reflective performance experience.
