The World Heritage designation is a distinction awarded by UNESCO to properties and sites with exceptional value that make them unique in the world. For Spain, the third country with 49 inscriptions on the World Heritage List, this event is of particular importance and highlights the extraordinary value of our country's cultural heritage.
El Group of World Heritage Cities of Spain It is a non-profit association declared to be of "Public Utility" that is made up of the fifteen Spanish cities whose historic centers have been declared World Heritage Sites: Alcalá de Henares, Ávila, Baeza, Cáceres, Córdoba, CuencaIbiza/Eivissa, Mérida, Salamanca, San Cristóbal de La LagunaSantiago de Compostela, Segovia, Tarragona, Toledo and ÚbedaOur goal is the coordinated and joint work of these City Councils in favor of the conservation and promotion of the immense historical and cultural heritage of these cities, which are a true international benchmark in cultural tourism.
In 2018, coinciding with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of its creation, the Group launched Heritage Night. La Nit del Patrimoni. A Noite do Patrimonio, an event that was a great media and participation success, and whose name pays tribute to the cultures and languages of all the Group's cities, representing the diversity and richness of our country.
The sixth edition of La NOCHE will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2023 and will be structured in three sections: dance shows (HERITAGE STAGE), open doors of monuments (OPEN HERITAGE), and a wide range of cultural and leisure activities in our historic centers (LIVE HERITAGE).
This year, as important new features, La NOCHE has the official support of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, UNESCO through the World Heritage Centre, and the Associations of World Heritage Cities of Cuba, Mexico and Peru.
Through the website www.lanochedelpatrimonio.com, as every year, you can follow the shows and visit and discover the treasures of these unique cities from home, both in Spain and abroad.
It will once again be a simultaneous celebration of Heritage, with a participatory, social and universal vocation, to highlight the pride that these 15 cities feel for working together for the common interest and, above all, for being Cities of All Humanity.
