The 7th edition of the International Dance Festival ESCENA PATRIMONIO will take place on September 14th, 2024, in the 15 World Heritage Cities of Spain.

This year, under the theme “Living Archive,” the festival will feature national artists from various Spanish regions and guests from Cuba, Costa Rica, Italy, and Portugal.

The Festival and platform for choreographic creation in heritage spaces, ESCENA PATRIMONIO, continues to strengthen its commitment to the valorization of the “living heritage” of the 15 World Heritage Cities of Spain, highlighting both local talents and contemporary creation at the national and international levels. Once again, in September, this experience will be repeated, creating a space for exchange between cities declared World Heritage by UNESCO, their heritage spaces, artistic territories, and diverse audiences.

To date, the Festival has hosted over 100 choreographers and companies from all the Autonomous Communities, as well as international artists, providing them with the extraordinary opportunity to inhabit and dialogue with these great vestiges of the past and our present.

In this way, ESCENA PATRIMONIO has become a reference for the decentralization of cultural offerings beyond the limits and networks of large metropolises, serving as a model in exploring new formats for audience creation for dance and movement arts.

On September 14th, the cities of Alcalá de Henares, Ávila, Baeza, Cáceres, Córdoba, Cuenca, Ibiza, Mérida, Salamanca, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia, Tarragona, Toledo, and Úbeda will host the seventh edition of ESCENA PATRIMONIO.

The program includes 15 pieces by recognized and emerging choreographers, including 7 world premieres in more than 20 performances, accompanied by parallel activities related to heritage and dance, such as workshops, presentations, talks, and video-dance screenings.

Once again, the program will give great prominence to female creation with 7 pieces conceived by female choreographers. It will also feature several artists from the Heritage Cities and 9 Spanish Autonomous Communities (Andalusia, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Galicia, Madrid, and Basque Country) and countries such as Cuba, Costa Rica, Italy, and Portugal.

Additionally, musical creation and contemporary dramaturgy will play a significant role, with the participation of renowned names in dramaturgy collaborating in the creations, as all performances will be accompanied by live music or original compositions created for the occasion.

Under the theme of “Living Archive,” this edition aims to reflect on the choreographic heritage of our tradition, activate the experiences of our heritage spaces with contemporary creations, and invite creators to rethink and re-signify emblematic pieces of their repertoire, taking advantage of the unique stages offered by our cities.

Thus, woven through this theme, this new edition of the Festival will feature national artists such as Alberto Conejero, Adrián Vega, Adriano Galante, Aurora Bauzà, Erick Jiménez, Israel Galván, Joaquín Collado, José Manuel Mora, Juan Berlanga, Kukai Dantza, Malpelo, Marcat Dance, Mariona Jaume, Maruxa Salas, Maya Triay, Natalia Menéndez, Pere Jou, Pol Jiménez, Poliana Lima, Richard Mascherin, Roberto Olivan, Rogelio Botanz, Sara Cano Dance Company, Taiat Dansa, and Yinka Esi Graves, and international guests such as Chamely Hernandez and Olber Viquillón (Cuba), Erick Jiménez (Costa Rica), Gianni Forte and Pino Basile (Italy), Coro do Carmo de Beja (Portugal), among others.
